*~*SCHOOL HOLIDAYS DESTINATION*~*
The island is located across a narrow straight
from the fishing village of Kukup on the mainland.
Pulau Kukup is mostly covered with mangrove swamp.
The island is 6.4 sq km in size but surrounded by mudflats totalling 8 sq km.
It was made a national park on 27 March 1997,
and granted the status of Wetland of International Importance
by Ramsar Convention Bureau.
Pulau Kukup is one the largest uninhabited mangroves in the world.
It is also the only one situated in Johor waters.
