**Caryn Chan Siew Teng (6S)**
Many people think pets are normally
anmials like dogs, cats, tortoises and fish.
Surprisingly,
I rear a crab as a pet.
My crab’s name is Larry.
Besides having a hard shell,
Larry also has two big and strong pincers.
It feeds on insects, leaves and small fish.
Larry stays in a big red bucket.
We put some logs on top of the bucket to prevent it from escaping.
Every fortnight,
my brother and I clean Larry’s home to ensure its health.
First,
my brother takes Larry out of the bucket and puts it in an old flower pot.
Next,
I empty the bucket and replace it with clean water.
Before putting Larry back into its little home,
we have to clean the pebbles and small stones
inside the bucket so that the water won’t get murky.
One day,
my family and I went out because it was a public holiday.
We didn’t realise that we forgot to cover the bucket with logs.
After reaching home,
I quickly ran to Larry’s home.
As I thought, Larry was missing.
I told my dad and brother about this.
We looked high and low for it in the house,
near the drain, on the grass, but there was no sign of it.
Alas,
my brother found it in the pond, eating algae happily.
We were relieved and felt very happy because we didn’t lose it.
I am proud to have such a unique pet.
I will take good care of it as long as it lives
because it is my responsibility.
